Aureo sale 243, lot 661

This specimen was lot 661 in Aureo y Calicó sale 243 (Barcelona, April 2012), where it sold for 850 € (about $1,284 including buyer's fees).

The catalog[1] noted,
"1797. Carlos IV. Santiago. 1/4 de real. Bella. Muy rara así. EBC. (quarter real of 1797, Santiago mint. Handsome, very rare thus, extremely fine.)"
It is one of a series minted 1792-1808 for Charles IV.

The type is not rare but many dates are likely very scarce. A hoard of uncirculated 1817's has been dispersed but the other dates are tough to find in nice condition.

Specification: 0.84 g, .896 fine silver, .024 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 63, Cal. 1452.
