Aureo sale 243, lot 671

This specimen was lot 671 in Aureo y Calicó sale 243 (Barcelona, April 2012), where it sold for 320 € (about $483 including buyer's fees).

The catalog[1] noted,
"1795. Carlos IV. Santiago. DA. 1/2 real. Buen ejemplar. Rara y más así. MBC+. (half real of 1795, Santiago mint. Nice example, rare thus, choice very fine.)"
It is one of a series minted 1792-1808 for Charles IV. The inverted mintmark shown here is mentioned in the SCWC but no explanation given nor does it appear on any other date or denomination.

Despite the steady output, the type is scarce.

Recorded mintage: 94,000.

Specification: 1.69 g, .896 fine silver, .048 troy oz ASW.
