This countermarked Santiago columnario eight reales was lot 902 in Cayón Subastas (Madrid, Feb 4, 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Santiago. 8 reales. 1764. J. Corona Imperial y Real. Resellado en Mozambique desde 1767. Cy11932. KM no la conoce sobre Santiago. MBC-. Rarísima. No conocemos otro Santiago resellado. En la obra de Jara sobre la ceca de Santiago se relacionan 5 ejemplares. Ex Thomas Faistauer collection. Ex colección Amat. Los duros de Santiago fueron rendidos en 5 de enero de 1765. En este año aparece por vez primera en la ceca la corona imperial sobre una de las columnas. Este ocho reales, único columnario conocido de la ceca con un resello, tiene la siguiente procedencia: Faistauer (vendida en subasta de Peters en 1976), comerciante de EEUU, Christensen (subasta 1986), Colección Amat (1991) y nuestra Colección. (Santiago 8 reales 1764-J. Imperial and royal crowns. Countermarked for Mozambique from 1767. Krause does not list this countermark on Santiago pillars. Very rare. We do not know of another Santiago countermarked coin of this series. In Jara's book on the Santiago mint five examples of this date are detailed. Ex Thomas Faistauer collection, ex collection Amat. The eight reales of Santiago were returned on the 5th of January 1765. This was the first year that the imperial crown appears utop the left column. This particular eight reales, the only one known from this mint with a countermark, has the following pedigree: Faistauer (sold in Peter's auction in 1976) Christensen (auction 1986), Amat Collection (1991) and our collection)."
