This specimen was lot 23525 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VI gold 8 Escudos 1754-J, AU55 NGC, a choice example with exceptionally bold details and nearly full mint brilliance. Rare and highly desirable in this attractive grade." The reverse motto, "NOMINA MAGNA SEQUOR," is Latin for "I follow a great name [Philip V]." The Nuestra Sonora de la Luz treasure rendered this type, heretofore extremely rare, quite available though still expensive for the average collector. All the specimens recovered were dated 1750-51; the other dates (1752-58) remain rare.
