Canada 2004 100 dollars
This specimen was lot 22266 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $480. The catalog description noted, "CANADA. 100 Dollars, 2004. PCGS PROOF-69 DEEP CAMEO Secure Holder. Struck to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of St. Lawrence Seaway. Includes certificate of authenticity serial #02198 (out of 7,454)." The profits extracted from the manufacture and sale of NCLT's caused the Royal Canadian Mint to scramble for ever more arcane topics, including this one honoring the 50th Anniversary of St. Lawrence Seaway. We don't know why the mint chose to use 14 K gold for this series.
Recorded mintage: 9,993.
Specification: 12 g, .583 fine gold, 27 mm diameter.
