Canada 1947-ML 25 cents
This specimen was lot 32676 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $258.50. The catalog description noted, "George VI Specimen "Maple Leaf" 25 Cents 1947 SP64 PCGS, Royal Canadian Mint. Mostly brilliant with light frost on the central devices. A touch of handling, mostly confined to the reverse and not a serious impediment to the eye-appeal, prevents a finer grade. From The Eric Beckman Collection of Canadian Coins." This type, struck at Ottawa 1948-52, is common in all grades. Mint officials were caught by surprise when the king announced that he was dropping "ET IND IMP" ("and Emperor of India") from his title and did not have any obverse hubs ready for 1948. Hence most of 1948's production was of 1947 dated coins with a maple leaf added to the reverse as a privy mark.
Recorded mintage: 1,524,554 plus 4,393,938 dated 1947 with maple leaf.
Specification: 5.83 g, .800 fine silver, .150 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
