The first specimen was lot 29472 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Edward VII 50 Cents 1905 AU53 PCGS, London mint. Attractive, with mottled surfaces covered in earthy shades of olive and russet tone. A key date in the series from the short-lived reign of Edward VIII, this offering presents a considerable amount of remaining detail, especially on George's crown and the reverse wreath motif. Visually appealing and with minimal wear, scarce in this state of preservation." The second specimen was lot 20063 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[2] noted,
"CANADA. 50 Cents, 1905. PCGS AU-50 Secure Holder. KEY DATE for the 50 Cents of Edward VII and RARE in any grade. From a mintage of just 40,000 pieces. A pleasing and wholesome piece. Lightly toned and attractive. Ex: The Bowers & Merena Galleries sale of the Estate Collections of Marcus Johnson Brown and M. Vernon Sheldon, as well as other properties, November 1983, lot# 3520."
This type is notoriously difficult to find in nice condition despite being minted in respectable numbers 1902-10. This is the key date.

Recorded mintage: 40,000.

Specification: 11.62 g, .925 fine silver, .3456 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM 12.
