This specimen was lot 29720 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. August II 2 Taler 1655-HS XF40 NGC, Goslar mint. Without '2' value punched in. By Mintmaster Henning Schlüte. Highly-intriguing, this massive specimen features the Duke on horseback wearing full armor and a plumed hat. The surfaces are uniformly toned in graphite color and the devices contain moderate wear which is all but expected on a piece of this size and age. An engaging type in all regards, scarce as such." A similar type (Dav-LS72) was struck in 1660 with the "2" punched in to mark the denomination. Both are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 58 g, silver.

Catalog reference: KM 451.1, Dav-LS70a.
