Kunker sale 293, lot 489
This specimen was lot 489 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,617 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-WOLFENBÜTTEL, HERZOGTUM August der Jüngere, 1635-1666. Reichstaler 1643, Zellerfeld. 4. Glockentaler. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Augustus the Younger, 1635-66, fourth bell thaler of 1643, Zellerfeld mint. Scarce in this quality, handsome patina, extremely fine.)"
The year 1643 saw the issue of nine different "bell" thalers (Dav-6363, -6364, -6366, -6366A, -6366B, -6371, -6373,-6374, -6375, -6369) in Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, as well as more conventional thalers (Dav-6338, -6347, -6370, -6372).
