British North Borneo is today known as Sabah and is a state of Malaysia. In the nineteenth century, half cents and cents were issued for the colony from the Heaton Mint. This specimen was lot 30561 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "British Protectorate Specimen Cent 1884-H SP66 Red and Brown NGC, Heaton mint. Windows of original mint color are visible in the centers with edges that are ringed in lavish lavender and cobalt-blue tone. Rarely encountered with this combination of quality and eye-appeal." This date is common.

Recorded mintage: 2,000,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 9.25 g, bronze, 29.6 mm diameter.
