This specimen was lot 13136 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Bremen. Taler, 1641-PT. NGC AU-55. Friedrich II, Prince of Denmark (1634-44). Lightly toned. RARE." Most Bremen issues were emitted by the free city of Bremen, still today a major port on the North Sea coast of Germany. However, the hinterland formed the archbishopric of Bremen which persisted after the region converted to Lutheranism in the mid-1500's. Finally, as a consequence of the Thirty Years War, the state was secularized and handed over to the king of Sweden and ruled by him until 1719. This type is from the last archbishop of Bremen, himself a Lutheran.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-5078, KM 38.
