Brazil 1932 2000 reis rev DSLR.jpg

Shown is a billon 2000 réis of the United States of Brazil. This is one of a series of circulating commemoratives issued in the 1920's and 1930's which today form an interesting but inexpensive set. This particular one commemorates João III, king of Portugal 1521-57, who sponsored many of the exploring expeditions to Brazil. The denomination was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 7.9 g, .500 fine silver, 26 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 532.
