Brazil 1909 10000 reis
This specimen was lot 24060 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description noted, "Republic gold 10000 Reis 1909, MS61 NGC, a nice lustrous coin with light handling in the fields. Very rare date with a mintage of 1,069, and especially elusive when certified as mint state." This type was struck in small quantities 1889-1922 along with a larger twenty milréis. It is normally seen lightly circulated with bagmarks from storage in bank vaults.
