This type was struck in small numbers 1835-48 in Rio de Janeiro, with 1835, 1837 and 1847 being the reasonably available dates. This specimen was lot 26628 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $258.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro II 200 Reis 1847, XF. Gray and earthy pastel colored. One of the more available dates of this scarce type." The series came accompanied by 100 réis, 400 réis, 800 réis and 1200 réis in silver. When the 200 réis resumed in 1854, it was lowered in weight to 2.55 g.

Recorded mintage: 2,936 (third commonest date).

Specification: 4.48 g, .917 fine silver, .132 troy oz ASW.
