This specimen was lot 30168 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 1,200 Reis, 1846. NGC EF-45. RARE date. From a mintage of only 1,898. The only example certified by either NGC or PCGS. Even antique toning with the look of a fully original coin adding to its desirability." This type was struck in small numbers 1834-48 in Rio de Janeiro, with 1834, 1835 and 1837 being the reasonably available dates. The series came accompanied by 100 réis, 200 réis, 800 réis and 400 réis in silver.

Specification: 26.89 g, .917 fine silver, .792 troy oz ASW.
