This specimen was lot 26158 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $381.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro II 400 Reis 1837, XF/AU, soft tone with light marks - none too bothersome, a low mintage type." This type was struck in small numbers 1834-48 in Rio de Janeiro, with 1834, 1835 and 1837 being the reasonably available dates. The series came accompanied by 100 réis, 200 réis, 800 réis and 1200 réis in silver.

Recorded mintage: 7,837.

Specification: 8.96 g, .917 fine silver, .264 troy oz ASW.
