This specimen was lot 23281 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Pedro II 800 Reis 1835, MS62 NGC, sharply struck with very bold details, rich old-time patina. Very scarce type in mint state." This silver 800 réis was minted 1835-46 in Rio de Janeiro. The series came accompanied by 100 réis, 200 réis, 400 réis and 1200 réis in silver. The 800 réis had the same specification as the old 640 réis last minted in 1833 and is much the rarest denomination.

Recorded mintage: 1,698 (highest mintage date).

Specification: 17.92 g, .917 fine silver, .528 troy oz ASW.
