This specimen was lot 1265 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1,725. The catalog description[1] noted, "1825 4,000 reis. Rio mint. MS-63 (NGC). Types as above. Bright and lustrous yellow gold with a pleasing portrait. A good type coin. From the John H. Clapp Collection; Clapp estate to Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr., 1942." This type was struck at Rio 1823-27 and at Bahia 1825-28. The Rio product is scarce and the Bahia product is very rare.

Recorded mintage: 20,000.

Specification: 8.2 g, .917 fine gold, .241 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 8.02 grams, 26.00 mm diameter.
