This specimen was lot 23965 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description noted, "João VI Prince Regent gold 4000 Reis 1817-(R), MS62 NGC. An original specimen with pebbly obverse fields. From The RLM Collection, Part II." This type was struck 1805-16 at Bahia and 1808-17 at Rio. The issue of 1818 (KM 327.1) featured João as king, not prince regent.
