Brazil 1813B 320 reis rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is from a type struck at the Rio mint 1809-17. It appears to be struck over another coin, likely an older 300 réis of the "J" series. Similar silver 320 réis were struck at Bahia (1810 and 1816) and Minas Gerais (1812-16). The 320 réis is half the size of the more common 640 réis and one-third the size of the 960 réis which were overstruck on Spanish-American eight reales. Earlier silver 320 réis are known, starting in 1695. Many are priced very low in the SCWC but remain very hard to find.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 8.96 g, .917 fine silver, .264 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 323.1.
