This specimen was lot 23341 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "João VI Prince Regent gold 4000 Reis 1810/09-R, MS63 NGC, boldly struck with full mint luster and strong overdate details." This type is known from Bahia (1805-16) and Rio (1808-17) and is common. 1810/09 overdates exist. This type is the most common of the "moidores."

Recorded mintage: 66,000 struck at Rio (shown here) plus 19,000 from Bahia.

Specification: 8.07 g, .917 fine gold, .237 troy oz AGW.
