Brazil 1799 10 reis rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen was struck at the Lisbon mint for Brazil in 1799. The minting of copper ten réis began in 1693 and continued steadily thru the eighteenth century. This marks the first year of the reduced size; this coin is the size and weight of the old five réis. All the copper denominations were affected; the five réis was dropped entirely. In 1809, old issues were recalled and countermarked with a shield to double their value.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: KM 228.
