This specimen was lot 12025 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $13,512. The catalog description[1] noted, "BRAZIL. 1,600 Reis, 1782-B. PCGS Genuine--Surface Damage, AU Details Secure Holder. Maria I & Pedro III (1777-86). VERY RARE denomination." This type, the last of this denomination, was struck 1781-84; all dates are rare as is this denomination as a class. The Eliasberg specimen brought $29,900.
