This specimen was lot 23764 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $558.13. The catalog description[1] noted, "Jose I 'Reduced Size' gold 1000 Reis 1774, AU53 NGC. 'Josephus Dominvs' type. Flat gold in appearance with no major marks. From The RLM Collection, Part II." The type was struck 1771 and 1774 without mintmark. It is substantially scarcer than the larger 4000 réis (KM 171.2).

Recorded mintage: 21,000 (all varieties).

Specification: 2.01 g, .917 fine gold, .059 troy oz AGW.
