This specimen was lot 23832 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description noted, "Jose I gold 6400 Reis 1773-R, AU55 NGC. Displaying rather attractively for the grade with bright surfaces that remain yellow-gold in the centers with light orange tone at the edges. Minimally abraded for the grade. Mintmark incorrectly listed on the NGC holder. From The RLM Collection, Part II." This type was struck 1751-77 and is among the more available colonial gold coins of Brazil.
