This specimen was lot 23801 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $2,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "Jose I gold 6400 Reis 1770-B, MS63 NGC. A fresh specimen with luminous brilliance in the fields and pleasing overall device definition. An example that will assuredly make its way into an advanced collection. From The RLM Collection, Part II." This type was struck 1751-77 and is among the more available colonial gold coins of Brazil.
