This specimen is from a type struck 1752-58 at Lisbon without mintmark. It was lot 23195 in Heritage sale 3012 (New York, January 2011). The Rio mint struck this type 1751-55 with an "R" mintmark. The 320 réis is half the size of the more common 640 réis. In 1768 the weight of this denomination was lowered from 9.66 grams to 8.90 grams. Earlier silver 320 réis are known, starting in 1695. The 1756 appears occasionally but the 1752 is rare.
