This specimen was lot 23240 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $8,225. The catalog description[1] noted, "João V 2000 Reis 1726-M, XF Details NGC, surface hairlines. Although cleaned, fields are problem free. Well centered strike. Rare. From The RLM Collection." This type was struck at the Minas Gerais mint 1724-27 and at Bahia 1714-25 and at Rio 1723-26 (KM 112). This is the rarest of the three mints and the rarest 2,000 réis of the eighteenth century.
