Kunker sale 293, lot 284
This specimen was lot 284 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,291 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG IN FRANKEN. Christian Friedrich Karl Alexander, 1757-1791. Konv.-Taler 1779, Schwabach, auf die Erneuerung des Orden des Brandenburgischen Roten Adlers (Ordre de la Sincérité = Orden der Aufrichtigkeit) in Hochfürstlich Brandenburgischer Roter Adlerorden. Das Brustbild ohne das Ordenskreuz. Slg. Grüber (Auktion Künker 267) 4598. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Tönung, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Christian Frederick Charles Alexander, 1757-91, convention thaler of 1779, Schwabach mint, on the renewal of the Order of the Red Eagle, bust without the Order. Rare in this quality, attractive example with fine toning, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This thaler honored the reestablishment of the Order of the Red Eagle. Four other thalers are noted for 1779. The line lapsed in 1791 and the provinces fell to Prussia, who in turn yielded them to Bavaria in 1806 as part of Napoleon's mediatization.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very scarce.
