This specimen was lot 626 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brandenburg-Ansbach. Taler, 1627. NGC AU-55. Friedrich II, Albrecht & Christian (1625-34). Deeply toned." This type was issued 1627-29 and is listed as rather common. It comes not from the Electorate of Brandenburg (later the Kingdom of Prussia) but from Brandenburg-Ansbach, a Hohenzollern enclave west of Bavaria and neighboring Nuremburg.
