Kunker sale 263, lot 650
This specimen was lot 650 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €340 (about US$439 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-ANSBACH, MARKGRAFSCHAFT Joachim Ernst, 1603-1625. Reichstaler 1620 (Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1619 geändert), Fürth. Feine Patina, kl. Zainende, fast sehr schön. (Germany, Margraviate of Brandenburg-Ansbach, Joachim Ernest, 1603-25, thaler of 1620/19. Nice toning, choice very fine.)"
The early 1620's saw an explosion of thaler issues as princes hired soldiers and bought weapons at the beginning of the Thirty Years War. This type of 1609, 1619-20 is fairly common tho not as available as later issues such as Dav-6237 or Dav-6238.
