Brabant in 1559, from Shepherd's atlas
This specimen was lot 3140 in Sincona sale 43 (Zurich, October 2017), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (aboout US$1,313 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BELGIUM | Brabant, Herzogtum, Philipp IV. 1621-1665 Souverain dor 1657. Brüssel. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Gutes vorzüglich. (duchy of Brabant, Philip IV, 1621-65, souverain d'or of 1657, Brussles mint. Rare in this condition, Good extremely fine.)"
This type is noted for Antwerp (Fr-107, hand mintmark) and Brussels (shown here) for 1648-63. The Brussels mint mark was an angel's face, which is poorly struck on this specimen.
