Bolivia 1872-PTS FE 20 centavos KM-154.3
This specimen was lot 1261 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $145.20. The catalog description noted, "BOLIVIA, Republic. 1825-present. AR 20 Centavos. Potosí mint. Fortunato Equivar, assayer. Dated 1872 PTS FE. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Lightly even toned surfaces. Only two of these have ever been graded. This is the only one graded in mint state and the finest by many grades. Scarce two year variety. Purchased from Steve Album, May 1993." This type was struck 1871-72 as part of Bolivia's second decimal coinage. Later issues of 1872 revised the reverse legend from "LA UNION HACE LA FUERZA" to "LA UNION ES LA FUERZA". This issue is slightly scarce, later twenty centavos of the 1880's are very common.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
