CNG Lissner sale, lot 1276

This specimen was lot 1276 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,936. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Republic. 1825-present. AR Boliviano. Potosí mint. Fortunato Equivar, assayer. Dated 1870 PTS ER. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Gem toned lustrous BU with just a faint hint of iridescent toning. Razor sharp strike. Finer of two graded. Elusive two year type. Purchased from Steve Eyer, August 1976." This is one of four different pesos struck during 1870. This one, struck 1870-71, is common and is distinguished by eleven stars on the obverse and "25 Gms 9 Ds FINO" on the reverse.
