This specimen was lot 24156 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $3,818.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Scudos 1843/2, Potosi mint, MS61 NGC. A small natural flan flaw on the mountain does not detract from the attractiveness of a generally handsome coin, with much mint bloom and well struck. The 'large bust' variety, struck beginning in 1841 and very difficult to locate in Mint State." This type was struck 1841-47 and is not rare but usually found impaired.
