This specimen was lot 23138 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $3,290. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carlos IIII gold Escudo 1804-PJ, MS65 NGC, fully brilliant with bold details, rare type with tiny mintage figures. Certainly among the finest known for the date and type in this incredible quality." This type is very scarce as is most colonial gold from Bolivia.

Recorded mintage: 476.

Specification: 3.38 g, .875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
