Aureo sale 232, lot 200
The specimen shown was lot 200 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 8,500 euros (about $14,025 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Carlos III (1759-1788). 1767. Potosí. JR. 8 reales. Columnario. Rosa de 4 pétalos. Insignificante marquita en reverso. Rayita. Bellísima. Brillo original. Rarísima así. EBC+. (Charles III, 1759-88, eight reales of 1767, Potosi mint, pillar type, with four-petalled roses. Tiny mark on reverse, beautiful, original luster, very rare thus, choice extremely fine.)
This type was issued from Potosi 1767-70, whereupon the mint reverted to cob production.
