Sincona sale 35, lot 5065
This specimen was lot 5065 in Sincona sale 35 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$534 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Bern | Stadt, 10 Kreuzer 1717. Sehr seltene Erhaltung. Fast FDC. (city of Bern, ten kreuzer of 1717. Very rare in this condition, About uncirculated.)"
The climbing bear is the badge of Bern, Switzerland. This type is listed for 1716-17 but has a low catalog value. Other ten kreuzer include KM 116 of 1755-56, KM 120 of 1759-90 and KM 158 of 1797. There is also a similar twenty kreuzer (KM 86). At the time, four kreuzer = one batzen and forty batzen = one thaler.
