Sincona sale 4, lot 5504
This specimen was lot 5504 in Sincona sale 4 (Zurich, October 2011), where it sold for 1,800 CHF (about US$2,395 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Bern Guldiner 1501. Nach links schreitender Bär, darüber Doppeladler, umgeben von doppeltem Wappenkreis. Rv. In einem mit Lilien verzierten Bogenkreis der heilige Vincenz in Diakonentracht mit Nimbus, Palmwedel und aufgeschlagenem Evangelienbuch. Selten. Graffito in Z-Form neben dem hl. Vincenz, sonst schön-sehr schön. (Switzerland, city of Berne, guldiner of 1501. obverse: bear striding left, double-headed eagle above. Reverse: St. Vincent in aureolus, holding palm branch and Gospels. Rare, scratch in field near St. Vincent, fine to very fine.)"
Davenport notes this type for 1493-94 and 1501.
