This specimen was lot 34185 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Basel. City 1/4 Taler 1740 MS63 PCGS. Good strike, bright surfaces, and pinpoint details. For accuracy's sake, a slight flan flaw is evident at 2 o'clock on the obverse with several adjustment marks on the reverse at 3 o'clock. Still, rarely encountered in this state of preservation. From the Redwood Collection, Part II." Three different quarter thalers are listed for 1740, KM-142, -143, -144, of which KM-142 is the most common. Only quarter thaler for this canton in the eighteenth century.
