Künker sale 293, lot 1536
This specimen was lot 1536 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,600 (about US$2,157 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Ferdinand I. 1522-1558-1564. Reichsguldiner (72 Kreuzer) 1557, Klagenfurt. Feine Tönung, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälische Auktionsgesellschaft 8, Dortmund 1997, Nr. 1883. (Holy Roman Empire, Ferdinand I, 1522-64, guldiner of 1557, Klagenfurt mint. Fine toning, extremely fine.)"
This type of 1557-58 shows the king (he did not become emperor until 1558) with a beard, which he adopted in the 1550's and wore until his death in 1564.
