This specimen was lot 3945 in Goldberg sale 80 (Los Angeles, June 2014), where it sold for $176.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Australia. Florin, 1939. George VI. Rare in mint state. NGC graded AU-58." This type is listed for 1938-45, after which the fineness was lowered to .500. This date is the key for the type. Some of the World War Two issues were struck at the San Francisco mint. Australia converted to the dollar in 1966.
