Australia 1935 florin
This specimen was lot 6024 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $258.50. The catalog description noted, "AUSTRALIA. Florin, 1935. NGC MS-63. Nice strike with attractive white luster." The type was issued 1911-36 with Melbourne being the sole producer after 1926. This Melbourne date is fairly common up thru extremely fine but the proofs are rare.
Sterling coinage was struck for several countries besides Great Britain, including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Southern Rhodesia, Fiji and New Guinea. All converted to decimal coinage in the 1960's.
Recorded mintage: 915,000 plus a few proofs.
