This specimen was lot 20946 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $977.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Augsburg. Free City Taler 1641, MS62 NGC. Beautifully toned city view Taler. Portrait and title of the Holy Roman Emperor, Ferdinand III. Common in lower grades not at all common this choice." This type was struck 1639-45 in sufficient numbers that the coin is fairly common today in circulated condition. The bishop of Augsburg also struck thalers but they are rare.
