Anhalt Bernberg 1793 2-3 thaler rev JK.jpg

This type was struck 1793 only and is fairly common. Anhalt-Bernburg issued another type in 1793 where an archway replaces the door in the city wall on the obverse. Thalers from eighteenth century Anhalt-Bernburg are rare so collectors make do with this denomination, which was roughly equal to a gulden. The crowned bear walking on the wall is a pun on Bernburg, which means "bear city" in German.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.03 g, .833 fine silver, .375 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 58.1.
