This specimen was lot 33320 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), where it sold for $399.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Portuguese Colony - João Prince Regent 1/2 Macuta 1815 VG. 18,000 mintage and virtually none have survived. A rarity." This copper type was issued 1814-15 along with one quarter, one and two macutas, all normally found heavily worn. The 1814 is a much more available date.

Recorded mintage: 18,000.

Specification: 7.8 g, copper, 30 mm diameter.
