Wurttemberg 1798 thaler Dav-2875

This specimen was lot 20718 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it was bought back by the owner for $13,512.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Wurttemberg. Friedrich I Eugen Taler 1798, Proof 62 Cameo NGC, silvery gray patina with golden highlights in the legends and incredibly sharp details. A choice piece and very rare as a Proof." This specimen strongly resembles the photo in the SCWC and may in fact be the plate specimen. Issues from this state in the eighteenth century are scanty; not until it was enlarged by Napoleon did the duchy achieve any importance.
