Heritage sale 3021, lot 20718
Wurttemberg 1798 thaler rev Heritage 3021-20718.jpg

This specimen was lot 20718 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it was bought back by the owner for $13,512.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Wurttemberg. Friedrich I Eugen Taler 1798, Proof 62 Cameo NGC, silvery gray patina with golden highlights in the legends and incredibly sharp details. A choice piece and very rare as a Proof." This specimen strongly resembles the photo in the SCWC and may in fact be the plate specimen. Issues from this state in the eighteenth century are scanty; not until it was enlarged by Napoleon did the duchy achieve any importance.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 28.06 g, .833 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Dav-2875; KM-464.
