from the Stack's Bowers 2019 NYINC sale, lot 43996
Straits Setts SB119-43996r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43996 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 50 Cents, 1890-H. Heaton Mint. PCGS VF-35 Gold Shield. Free of significant flaws and thus highly collectible for the grade sensitive issue." This type was struck 1886-1901 and is scarce in all grades, unlike the smaller denominations.

Recorded mintage: 42,000, a much better date but not the key.

Specification: 13.57 g, .800 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-13; Tan-SSC30.
