Straits Settlements 1889 5 cents
This specimen was part of lot 25089 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), which sold for $3,240. The catalog description noted, "13 pieces in lot. This lot includes a wide variety of coins from various countries and denominations around the world. The lot includes: 10 Cents from Canada, 2 Reales from Spain, 4 Pfennig from Germany, 4 Pence from Great Britain, 1 & 2 Franc from France, 20 Centavos from Chile, Mil from Hong Kong, 5 Cents from Straits Settlements, 10 Centesimos from Uruguay, 1/2 Pai from Thailand, Ban from Romania, and 2 Decimos from Ecuador. All of the coins are graded by PCGS with Secure Holders. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS." The type was struck in 1871-1901 and many dates are common but this one is somewhat scarce.
